As economic downturn and the inevitable recession continues as the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds, and we find ourselves sat at home in front of our computers and our mobile phones – Every. Single. Day.
A quarter of the entire planet’s population is currently locked down having been told by their government to ‘Stay at Home‘. As I am sure we have all heard – these certainly are UNPRECEDENTED TIMES!
Work remotely. Only travel if you find it is entirely necessary. All companies must shut their doors. You must keep a distance of 2 metres from each other. Self-isolate. Quarantine. If you go out, wash your hands hands you get back. Don’t touch your face.
Crazy times are unfolding, but what does that mean for the digital marketing agency landscape?
There’s no doubt that with the majority of businesses closing their doors, it’s going to have an impact on digital marketing agencies. But there are two mindsets for business owners right now:
- Push even hard with online marketing
- Completely stop any and all online marketing
Having spoken with several business owners about this, I have concluded the latter is more popular. However, it may not be the best decision. With people sat at home, surely it’s time to DO MORE.
Just some of the things companies should be doing right now…
- Redesign website
- Build new website for new business venture
- Write blogs
- Advertise on social media
- Generate content
- Email marketing campaigns
- Community management
- Customer engagement
Don’t get me wrong, there are companies profiting BIG TIME by capitalising on the COVID-19 situation. E-Commerce certainly hasn’t stopped, and online services will be booming. But to those companies that think stopping all forms of online marketing is a good idea right now, I would urge you to think again. When all of this blows over, yes the entire economy might be different, but wouldn’t you rather be that company that kept in front of people’s eyes than the one that ceases to exist?
